2022 TAMVA High School Boys Fall Classic

We took our first step in growing the game by promoting opportunities for high school boys with our first High School Boys tournament in Dallas last weekend.    TAMVA staff and volunteers were able to host 8 high school boys teams and conduct a one-day tournament managing all aspects of the event so all they had to do was show up and play volleyball.  The teams competed in pool play in the morning with all teams advancing to bracket play in either the gold or silver bracket.   Some of the teams had never competed in a competition before so the play was pretty rough in the morning but as the day progressed it was rewarding to see the improvements that some of the teams accomplished.

We had a great group of staff and volunteers that handled all of the officiating and lots of coaching along the way teaching some of the basic aspects of the game.  We had 3 of our own Hall of Famers (Jon Rye, Steve Larwa, and Landon Carpenter) that took the ref stand to officiate matches during the day.  The tournament was run in conjunction with the SIVA Preseason tournament, so all the high school boys were able to see the collegiate club teams competing and what opportunities they will have to play when they get to college.  The college teams also were able to stop by and support the high school players throughout the day.   We also received some very high gratitude and praise from many parents for putting on this event for their kids.

We had teams from the following Dallas area high schools:  (1) Marcus HS, (2) Lebanon Trail HS,(3) Heritage HS,(4) Plano East(Gold) HS,(5) Decatur HS,(6) Independence HS,(7) Jesuit HS, (8) Plano East(Black) HS.

Jesuit HS took on Plano East(grey) HS for an exciting 3 set gold bracket finals match with Plano East(grey) coming out as the winner (25-19, 17-25, 15-11).  View FINAL RESULTS for the entire tournament.  Check out the photos below to see the teams we were able to support.

For all those former players that were not able to travel to College Station for the TAMVA Kickoff and alumni weekend, know that you were truly missed and we look forward to engaging with you in future events.  It was most definitely a memorable weekend of camaraderie and rekindling old friendships with former aggie volleyball teammates.    The weekend was filled with a variety of activities:   From the Friday night bar crawl, to the early morning golf scramble, the afternoon tailgate and grass volleyball on Simpson Drill Field, to the Banquet Dinner, each offering a different opportunity to engage in conversation and activity with old friends and new acquaintances alike.   Make sure to visit the TAMVA webpage - www.TAMVA.org and check out all the banquet photos, see video presentations, and review new options to upgrade your TAMVA memberships now.

While the reconnection with old teammates was a primary draw for many, the introduction Vision and Future Initiatives of the Texas Aggie Men’s Volleyball Association (TAMVA) as well as the Induction of the Inaugural Class of the Texas Aggie Men’s Volleyball Hall of Fame capped off the weekend.  (See recap below for more details. )

There seemed to be a shared interest and excitement for the vision that TAMVA Board of Directors presented at the banquet to engage in the future of what TAMVA is setting out to accomplish with the aim of providing opportunities to a younger generation of boys and men as well as enhancing the opportunities for our own Aggie Men’s Volleyball team.  We will be sending out a poll to all TAMVA members in the coming days to help gauge the level of engagement that each of you are interested in so that we can target our communications and requests accordingly. 

As shared in the presentation, we have opened multiple new TAMVA membership levels for you to participate.   Many members took advantage immediately completing your membership upgrade, while others are still reviewing the best option.

TAMVA Kickoff Presentation Highlights

The Texas Aggie Men’s Volleyball Association (TAMVA) is an organization of people whose lives were impacted by playing volleyball as a part of the team while attending Texas A&M University. We have a shared vision to give back to the world around us through the sport of volleyball and our alma-mater. Established in Nov 2021 Received official IRS designation as 501c3 Nonprofit organization VISION To promote the sport at the collegiate level by supporting the Texas A&M Men’s volleyball club team. To promote the sport at a local level through camps, tournaments, and promotion to youth boys throughout Texas. To preserve and promote volleyball teaching, education, officiating, organizing and playing opportunities for boys and men’s volleyball participants in such ways as the Board of Directors determines and in accord with the inherent values of sport. Texas Aggie Men’s Volleyball Hall of Fame -  Inaugural Class of 2022

Nominees were considered based on multiple selection criteria including:  (1) Playing ability, (2) Contributions to the club/team, (3) Leadership, (4) Character, (5) Integrity, and (6) Continued contributions to volleyball  The Class of 2022 HOF members inducted include: Steve Larwa - Class of 1993      Jon Rye - Class of 1997   Landon Carpenter - Class of 2002    Mike Popp - Class of 2002

We have been busy finalizing all of the details for the upcoming TAMVA Kickoff Weekend only a month away. We are still working on some final touches but we have the basics of the new Texas Aggie Men’s Volleyball Association (TAMVA) website and registration system up and running. We are excited to see that there has been lots of interest with former players from across the country already planning to attend. We are planning to make this a weekend to remember and socialize with your old teammates as well as meet former players from other years.

We would like all former players, whether you are able to attend or not, to join the TAMVA database so that we are able to maintain updated contact information for all our former players of Texas A&M Men’s Volleyball. Former players will be able to maintain their own member profile and update information as life changes occur. Member information will only be accessible by other former player members on the website and you are able to choose which information is accessible to other members. We have a room block at the Texas A&M Conference Center located on campus across from Kyle field with very affordable room rates($129/night) for the weekend. If you have not already booked your rooms for the weekend make sure to do that ASAP as the room block expires on Tuesday and there were not many rooms left at last check.

Registration is OPEN: After you have created your former player profile, click on the Events tab to start registering for each of the events that you and your guests will be attending so that we have an accurate count and can prepare accordingly for each event.

Many players that we have talked to thus far are planning to bring spouses/girlfriends/significant others and using this as an opportunity for a weekend getaway without the kids. If you don’t have arrangements otherwise, bring them along and they can join in on the activities or we can try to line up sitters for Saturday night.

Other activities: The Aggie Baseball team is in town on Fri, Sat, and Sun vs Arkansas for anyone wanting to catch a game if it fits in your schedule. The pool at the Texas A&M Conference Center is nice to hangout and enjoy the sun between activities. We are also exploring Kyle Field tours and will communicate further if this becomes an option.
